Some Information On Prisoner Transport Systems

By Linda Ruiz

The world is full of governing rules. There are rules for almost every aspect of living within the community. There are rules to be followed at home, imposed by parents that the kids have to follow. There are also rules at school, and at work. Every action is dictated in accordance with rules and regulations, and the law abiding citizen has to keep in line to avoid mishaps.

These rules are not made to make every action hard for everyone. It is not even made to flaunt out the authority than some people have over the others. Instead, these regulations exist for safety reasons. They are also made so that peace will rule over the land. People who intentionally break these rules are then carried off by prisoner transport systems until the court has reached its decision.

A jail is also known as a prison or a gaol. This is a closely monitored facility where inmates are contained. These inmates are denied their many forms of freedom as a form of punishment for the crime that he has committed. Some of these people are to be confined in their cells for the rest of their lives, some for a certain period decided upon by the law, and some are only detained until the trial date is set.

These prisoners have to serve different sentences, depending on the seriousness of the cases they have been entangled with. Some only have to be detained until trial, some have to stay for a couple of years. Some have to stay for more than ten long years, while others have to stay for as long as they live.

Sometimes, the inmates are moved from one cell to another. They can even be moved from one detainment center to the next, if the reasons for doing so are acceptable enough for the court to give their approval. Sometimes it is upon the prison authorities to make the decision to move the inmate, or the initiative can come from the inmate himself.

A very few people may have realized, but there is a serious problem in these facilities regarding overpopulation. In some cells, the number of detainees even exceed the limit, so instead of sleeping on beds, some just sleep on cold and hard floors at night. Also, the number of people inside has made it very crowded, which can result in more misunderstandings than usual.

Aside from space problems, another reason for a transfer can come from the inmate. Visitation rights are placed of utmost importance for these people, so being placed near family is top priority. If a prisoner is detained in a far off place, he can make an appeal to be moved in a closer facility so that his family can visit often.

When the appeal is received positively, the equipments for the transport is then made ready. The prisoner is often in handcuffs for the entire journey, and can even wear leg irons if needed. Most of these transport vehicles are modified to be able to carry out their purpose well. They are often fitted with bulletproof glasses, in case of attacks.

Extradition of criminals from one jurisdiction to another requires higher alert status. Rendition aircraft is often used in these cases, especially when the inmate is considered dangerous. Sometimes, they are carried onto a commercial liner, to be accompanied by vigilant officers.
