What You Should Know About Drilling Noise Control Measures

By Marci Glover

Many companies and construction companies use heavy machines to drill ground and holes. As they drill to finish the work, a lot of noises is produced that affects the environments and people living within a small distance. It is ideal, or in some cases, the licensing authorities encourage the contractors to put measure to reduce the noises generated. Drilling noise control must be made to ensure safety of both workers and people living within.

When one wants to start a big project of building a house, they need to get a contractor who understands all the laws that will protect the people around. They will make sure that they have a new technology that can reduce the sound of machines and drills. This is one area that a person cannot do without if they want to be on the safe side of the law.

With the right contractor, you will not worry of the neighbors reporting you to the authority due to excess sound. This is because they have different ways of ensuring that the site is livable by using specials equipment like rig wraps or k-rails. Some will use the sound blankets that assist in reducing the sound in ordinance and string codes.

Today, there are many installations used to mitigate the problems. Since they solve the issues, they make the drill work efficient. The engineers hired by drillers in the oil industry, gas services, electricity and water generations and the horizontal services such as gases, oil, water and drill services works to give solutions.

If a company working to open the ground does not have sufficient funds, hire the equipments in temporary formations. They get developed rig control units, machines used for production, gas and pipeline excavations machines and direction drilling. For those who have enough money, they can make the permanent acquisitions for several machines. Though you spend a lot of money, your employees are guaranteed safety.

You should not be tempted to start any construction without the advice of the contractors. They will help you understand and get the best controllers for systems like the rig generator, draw works shroud and substructure sound barriers. All the above controls cannot be installed by inexperienced person, and that is why you should be selective with the contractor to hire if you want to make the environment safer for everyone.

There are several ways through which a company that deals in excavation can reduce the levels of noises produced. First, there is the engineering controls mechanism. Here, the engineers work to modify the machines and the work area to make it quiet. Some good examples involve substituting noisy equipment with a quieter one, retrofitting an old machine with dump materials, enclosures, and mufflers, constructing the barriers within the work area and carrying out maintenance jobs.

The second and most important criteria to minimize the levels include administrative controls. These are decisions made by managers on any activity carried out, rotation of work and reducing the workloads to reduce the exposure of workers. You can even move and relocate the employees from the sources, prevent the access of these areas, changing the employee positions and closing the noisy machines. Finally, we can use personal protective gears. A typical example includes wearing the ear plugs to reduce exposures. These gadgets come as a last resort and must be given when all other methods have failed with noise levels above 85Db.
