Bus Wraps & Gainesville's Potential Electronic Movement

By Robert Sutter

When it comes to bus wraps and billboards, it goes without saying that there are various methods of marketing that companies can benefit from. They have proven themselves to be effective as well, which means that they have more than stood the test of time. However, it seems as though the city of Gainesville is about to incorporate electronic billboards for companies to benefit from. This was something that I was not aware of until I came across a recent article that spoke about it in detail.

There was a report posted on the Gainesville Times that talked about the city possibly incorporating digital billboards. The way that they would work, according to real estate representative Tim Hill, was that they would rotate a series of six advertisements, each one given a total of ten seconds. What this means is that each of them would be given even exposure. It's clear that this potential billboard inclusion could be tremendous but one of the many points that were spoken about in the article was the potential for distraction.

As you can probably imagine, electronic billboards could potentially throw off the concentration of drivers. As a result, there are certain methods that will prove to be more beneficial than others, as companies like JMR Graphics would be able to support. Unlike the inclusion of bus wraps, for example, electronic billboards may prove to be too distracting and the reason for this is because of how bright they are. As you can imagine, the overall functionality of the billboards in question has to be strong.

It's important to note that these billboards can be managed in terms of how bright they are. While it's understandable that they will stand out more during the evening due to the lack of natural light, said brightness is not required during the daytime nearly as much. Technology has grown leaps and bounds, though, as the article mentioned. What this means is that the advancements which have been seen throughout the years are ones which should, in theory, help to make these billboards stand out even more.

From what I have seen, these billboards could be utilized for a number of purposes. In addition to advertising various goods and services, it is possible that they can project weather updates, for example. What this means is that if there is a upcoming rainstorm or heavy instance of snow in the future, it's likely that people will know about it much sooner that they would have otherwise. For this reason alone, Gainesville has a lot to benefit from as far as the potential inclusion of electronic billboards is concerned.
