Reasons To Apply Epoxy Floor Coating

By Dominique Martin

Epoxy is a strong adhesive material that is used for sticking other materials together in a surface. It is a cured end products from epoxy resins which is also a term taken from the epoxide functional group. Epoxy Resins are basically polymers or reactive polymers known as polyepoxides. Two resins are needed to be mixed in order for it to be used.

The use is varied, for example, metal coatings, electrical parts, insulators, plastic materials, or structural adhesives. Although commonly for home use, it is utilized as an Ohio epoxy floor coating for garages in order to prevent wear and tear on the surface. This is usually applied on concrete that should be pre treated before application.

Because the surface is seamless and shiny, the surface is easy to clean from dirt, debris, and other foreign objects. These treated floors are the reason why various establishments have made use of it like in food, pharmaceutical factories, packaging companies, breweries and bottlers, and many others. The maintenance would not take that much effort as well.

The surface has a bright luster that would look aesthetic and gives the atmosphere of the place a better feel. This material comes in various colors and designs and may be used depending on how the owner wishes to install this. It can either be a flat or combination of colors, or also a pattern or logo. They can be mixed and matched with anything and would add beauty to the entire place.

Another reason why owners would opt for this is due to it being chemically resistant. Owners of manufacturing factories, warehouses, and industrial plants, have used this in order to protect their floors from any hazardous chemicals that may come in contact as well as easily cleaning them up because of the nature of its surface. It basically resists impact, heat, fire, and slip.

Due to the design being flexible, it can be used as signages for warehouses in order to maintain organization and manage traffic. This can be used as a better alternative to paint which does not easily be worn out and is more effective against friction or abrasion. These signages are mostly for designating work zones, safety zones, and traffic movements.

Because of it being durable and highly resistant to wear and tear, investing on the material can produce savings from other expenses meant for maintenance and use of the mentioned utilizations. This is also environmentally friendly, which gives an advantage to the establishment due to eco friendly campaigns being promoted for all manufacturing companies that are dealing with harsh materials and chemicals.

Although there are many different reasons why the epoxy application would not work. Mostly this is caused due to poor primer or floor preparation. It is necessary to grind or shot blast the floor before installation. It should be clean, dry, dust free, and the substrate should be shot blast. Humidity also plays a key factor. Make sure there are no dripping pipes or taps, or any rising humidity underground.

Another set of reasons that may cause failure would be if the substrate is weak or if there is no primer or applying the wrong kind. A possibility of having the wrong kind of elasticity for the resin would be a factor, due to the surface expanding and the resin not being able to keep up with it and ends up breaking. Contaminated floors would also be a cause of this if they are not properly cleaned before application.
